Job Description
CIVIL ENGINEER
CAP Government, Inc. is seeking the immediate hire of licensed Civil Engineer (Municipal) needed in the preparation of studies, designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports relating to design, construction, testing, operation, and maintenance of a variety of civil engineering projects; • Receives assignments in general terms which outline the type and general characteristics of the projects; decides on procedure and performs or checks preliminary design work, assigning to subordinate engineers the development of plans, specifications, designs, and detailed drawings of the various components of the projects. Candidates with experience in capital improvement projects, is a plus. Some travel may be required for inspections and/or managing projects in the assigned area.
We currently have positions available in our Broward and Miami-Dade office. Candidates must possess excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Duties, Responsibilities, and Qualifications
• A thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices; wide knowledge of survey and construction practices related to municipal public works; knowledge of design principles, and ability to perform and evaluate difficult design work; ability to coordinate the work of engineers and technical personnel; ability to write reports; ability to establish and maintain effective public relations.
• Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of an engineering section within a major division of the Department of Resilience & Public Works.
• Supervises the preparation of finished plans and specifications for public works construction projects.
• Serves as the technical specialist in the department and in the application of advanced concepts and processes.
• Supervises the preparation of cost estimates and schedules for various public works construction projects.
• Reviews plans and specifications; makes recommendations for alterations, as needed.
• Approves and signs and seals plans, as required.
• Serves as Engineer of Record of major public works construction projects.
• Supervises and/or assists inspectors in overseeing construction work done by contractors.
• Prepares and checks payment estimates, change orders, notices of completion and final reports.
• Making material and construction reports.
• Supervises and/or participates in the development of new designs and/or engineering techniques to be utilized for resolving problems encountered in a public works construction project.
• Administers appropriate City and departmental policies and procedures as they apply to the supervision of subordinate personnel.
• May assist in formulating departmental policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager
Education/Experience:
• Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Florida; and
• Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline, and four (4) years' practical engineering experience including two (2) years' civil engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Experience in dealing with municipal agencies, is a plus.
