Qualifications
"BASIC OBJECTIVES
This is specialized automotive repair work. The work involves changing and repairing
automobile, truck, bus and off-road equipment tires and tubes. The work is performed both
in-shop and on an emergency road service basis.
JOB TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Removes tires from vehicles, off-road equipment and other service vehicles.
2. Safely performs repair of tire and/or tube; replaces as necessary.
3. Demonstrates ability to use appropriate shop (mechanical and hand) tools as required.
4. Drives service trucks in response to road calls.
5. Cleans garage areas and buildings.
6. Performs simple vehicle servicing operations and other related duties of a comparable
or lower skill level when own work is not available.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is heavy work which requires the following physical activities: bending, stooping,
kneeling, crouching, twisting, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions,
talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed indoors and outdoors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Completion of eighth grade or demonstrated ability to read, write and understand
written instructions.
2. Experience in the installation and repair of automobile and heavy duty vehicle tires and
tubes.

3. Comprehensive knowledge of tire type and size requirements of light and heavy duty
vehicles and on methods and practices related to the mounting and repair of tires.
4. The Department of Maintenance requires the possession of valid Florida CDL Class A
license. The Department of Transportation requires the possession of a valid Florida
CDL Class B license with passenger endorsement.
5. Satisfactory completion of a physical examination prior to hire date.
Note: This is an Omnibus Transportation Employees Testing Act (OTETA) monitored
position. Employees with this job description may be required to drive or road test
a motor vehicle weighing over 26,000 pounds, transport 16 or more persons, or carry
hazardous materials."
