Job Description
Mechanical Engineering Expert - AI Content Specialist
About The Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to make the next generation of AI models smarter, safer, and more technically rigorous - and we need mechanical engineers to help get us there.
As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll put your deep domain knowledge to work by designing challenging problems, authoring gold-standard solutions, and auditing AI reasoning across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more. Your expertise will directly shape how AI understands and applies engineering principles.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role - work on your own schedule, on your own terms.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 1040 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Design Complex Engineering Problems - Craft advanced, domain-specific challenges across areas like FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, fluid dynamics, and material science to stress-test AI performance.
• Author Ground-Truth Solutions - Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models use as the gold standard for learning.
• Audit AI-Generated Technical Content - Evaluate AI outputs - including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications - for accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
• Refine AI Reasoning - Identify and document logical errors in AI reasoning, such as incorrect force distributions or energy conservation violations, and provide structured feedback to improve model performance.
Who You Are
• Holds or is pursuing a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
• Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
• Able to communicate complex technical concepts and physical phenomena clearly and precisely in written form
• Detail-oriented - comfortable working with mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and asynchronously
• No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
• Prior experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflows
• Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
• Experience reviewing or producing technical documentation to industry standards
Why Join Us
• Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and teams
• Fully remote and flexible - you set your schedule
• Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and collaboration with experts across the globe
• Meaningful work - your engineering knowledge directly improves how AI reasons about the physical world
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
