The Technical Department
The Technical Department is a vital department responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our diverse fleet of vessels. Our talented team plays a crucial role in upholding the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency in maritime operations. What You will Do
The Vice President - Technical serves as a senior leader within the Technical Department, reporting directly to the Head of Technical. This role provides strategic oversight and leadership for the technical and operational performance of a designated fleet, ensuring vessels operate at the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. The VP Technical is accountable for aligning fleet operations with corporate objectives, regulatory compliance, and client expectations, while driving innovation, cost optimization, and continuous improvement across all technical functions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
• Define and implement technical strategies that support organizational goals and enhance fleet performance.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior management and vessel owners, providing insights on technical trends, regulatory developments, and risk mitigation.
Operational Excellence
• Oversee safe, compliant, and cost-effective operation of all vessels within the assigned fleet.
• Ensure adherence to international and local regulations, classification requirements, and the company's Safety Management System (SMS).
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance, energy efficiency, and lifecycle management.
Financial Stewardship
• Develop and present annual budgets for assigned vessels in collaboration with Vessel Managers; secure owner approvals where required.
• Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to maintain budgetary discipline.
• Approve high-value purchase orders and invoices within delegated authority ($30,000-$50,000).
Client Relationship Management
• Maintain proactive communication with vessel owners and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and timely resolution of technical and operational issues.
• Uphold service excellence standards to strengthen client trust and long-term partnerships.
Crisis and Risk Management
• Lead emergency response efforts for major incidents, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure swift and effective resolution.
• Establish robust contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies for fleet operations.
People Development
• Provide leadership and mentorship to Vessel Managers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
• Conduct performance appraisals, identify training needs, and implement competency development programs.
• Collaborate with Crewing teams to enhance onboard talent through training and career progression initiatives.
Project Oversight
• Guide planning and execution of dry dockings, refurbishments, and major technical projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality standards.
What We Are Looking For
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
Professional Certification: Possession of an unlimited Chief Engineer's License is strongly preferred.
Experience:
• Minimum of seven years' experience as a Vessel Manager within the cruise ship sector.
• Demonstrated expertise in overseeing complex dry-docking operations and major ship modification projects for cruise vessels.
Skills: Proven leadership capabilities combined with exceptional crisis management, strategic planning, and financial oversight skills.
Compliance Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of international maritime regulatory frameworks, including IMO, ILO, and Flag State requirements.
