About the position

Miami-Dade Animal Services (MDAS) is seeking qualified applicants to join our dynamic team of veterinary professionals in the exciting field of shelter medicine in sunny South Florida. The state-of-the-art facility spans 77,000 square feet and operates as an open admission shelter, providing care and refuge to over 27,000 abandoned or lost dogs and cats annually. Our facility is equipped with two surgical suites, a radiology unit, and a comprehensive veterinary forensics program, allowing us to deliver high-quality veterinary care. We focus on high-volume spay/neuter services, including Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs, and operate a public pet wellness clinic alongside pet retention initiatives. As a veterinarian at MDAS, you will have the unique opportunity to engage in population health management, preventive medicine, and animal behavior, while rotating through clinical, surgical, and forensic services. This role is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of shelter medicine under the direct leadership of the Chief Veterinarian. Our commitment to innovative and lifesaving programs has resulted in over 90% of animals entering the shelter being saved for three consecutive years. Located in the City of Doral, MDAS serves a diverse community of more than 2.6 million residents, making it an ideal location for impactful work and enjoyable living, with an average temperature of 77° and proximity to downtown Miami and Miami Beach.


Responsibilities

Provide high-quality veterinary care to shelter animals.

Perform surgical procedures in the surgical suites.

Conduct health assessments and preventive care for animals.

Engage in population health management and animal behavior assessments.

Participate in clinical, surgical, and forensic rotations.

Collaborate with a team of veterinary professionals to improve animal welfare.

Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and wellness.

Requirements

Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Possession of a State of Florida Veterinarian license or working towards it with a commitment to earn it by the start date.

Nice-to-haves

Experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter programs.

Strong communication skills for public education and outreach.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
