The Manager, Medical Assets reports to the Director, Health Administration & Finance is responsible for the effective management the shipboard medical center facilities including newbuilds and refurbishments, medical equipment, assets, and projects.



The Manager will lead a team to provide daily medical facilities support and expertise including infrastructure, biomedical equipment and end-user training, to prevent equipment shortages, respond to critical equipment malfunctions, formulate timely and appropriate solutions, maintain MAST databases, detail the financial impact and present their action plans for leadership decision, if necessary.



The Manager will lead the medical facilities projects inclusive of new and standardization of equipment initiatives, medical center refurbishments, and new builds. They will formulate plans that balance operational needs with fiscal controls. The Manager should be able to clearly articulate new initiatives and projects to both internal and external stakeholders, communicate updates, and work with various parties such as shipboard technical and leadership teams to resolve issues.

The Manager will drive projects by conducting operational assessments; providing on-site support; facilitating project teams and work groups; presenting project results and improvement proposals; and developing plans with a focus on cost containment and operational efficiency.



The Manager will be required to assist shoreside medical teams, within all operating lines within Carnival Corporation, to drive alignment opportunities and provide emergency operational support when needed. Additionally, they will provide timely support to the ship’s medical staff for critical equipment malfunctions and be available for urgent issues after work hours.

This role will interface with all brands of the Carnival Corporation which comprises eight brands with approximately 95 ships carrying over 12 million guests annually and employing over 160,000 team members.



Essential Functions:

Medical Asset Management:

• Manage the preventative maintenance program, by ensuring all biomedical visits are planned in advance and maximize cost effectiveness

• Review and approve equipment replacements and/or procurements before purchasing

• Equipment Life Cycle Management/Capital planning. Identify end-of-life/end-of-support medical equipment and work with Director on required operating and(or) capital planning

• Coordinate with third party biomedical vendors to provide timely and cost-effective operational support. Included are technical troubleshooting response times, open works orders, retired or non-supported equipment assets, and new initiatives

• Maintain accurate medical asset databases through our MAST platform.

• Monitor medical equipment redundancy stores for emergency use, approve distribution and replenish global locations

• Perform appropriate market research on new equipment options and present solutions to department stakeholders

Operational Support

• Provide guidance to shipboard medical staff and medical facilities team members on submitting and processing medical facilities requests and escalate issues as necessary

• Train and assist medical facilities team on triaging requests by level of urgency and priority, and provide basic level knowledge of biomedical equipment and functions

• Remain attentive and responsive to resolve important critical issues that have patient safety implications

• Maintain technical knowledge of current standards for safe, effective use of medical equipment through instruction

• Communicate any equipment recalls or new initiatives with the shipboard medical teams

• Partner with global MAST team for all medical asset management, updates, and reporting

• Create and partner with the clinical team in communicating training material for new equipment and other initiatives

Medical Facilities Project Management

• Develop and manage medical center refurbishment and new builds projects, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation

• Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Lead and coordinate project teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration

• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies. Ensure projects adhere to relevant healthcare industry regulations and standards

• Travel to designated shipyards to monitor project progress and provide support to the medical staff

• Conduct on-site ship reviews and evaluate medical center needs, identify and appropriately plan any change requirements

Vendor Relations:

• Maintain and grow vendor relationships to meet the needs of the fleets

• Respond to vendor inquiries for escalated issues for missing shipments and(or) discrepancies

• Evaluate and choose appropriate suppliers based on quality of product, cost effectiveness and lead times

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, or Nursin
